Your Comprehensive Guide to Malaysian Passport Renewal

Applying for a passport online offers a convenient and time saving option through the Immigration Department of Malaysia, especially during school and public holidays. It’s important to note that the Immigration Department sets a daily maximum limit for passport renewals, so if you plan to renew your passport in person, it’s advisable to arrive early.

Here are the steps to follow:

1.Prepare Your Passport Size Photo:

  • Ensure the photo background is white.
  • Wear dark colored clothing that covers your shoulders and chest.
  • If you wear a headscarf or hijab, it should be dark colored and not cover your face.
  • Avoid wearing glasses, colored lenses, or overhead accessories.
  • Upload softcopy images taken by a professional photo studio.
  • Polaroid images are not accepted.

2.Enter Personal Information and Upload Your Latest Passport Size Photo:

Use the official Immigration Malaysia link to access the application portal

3.Make Payment:

  • Payments can be made securely using a direct credit/debit card (FPX).
  • The application fees are as follows:
    • Ordinary Application (13 – 59 years): RM 200
    • Gold Citizen (60 years and over): RM 100

 4.Collect Your Passport:

  • Once your passport is ready, you’ll need to collect it in person.
  • Ensure you have your identification cards, existing passports, and payment receipts.
  • Note that no third party representation is allowed.
  • Your passport book must be in good condition, without damage, stains, or exposure to water.
Individuals are not eligible to submit online passport applications

Please be aware that certain individuals are not eligible to submit online passport applications and must visit the counter to qualify for the RM 100 exemption. These include:

  1. Persons with Disabilities (OKU)
  2. Children aged 13 years and under
  3. Students who will continue their studies
  4.  Pilgrims (Jemaah Haji)

If you need to physically attend the Immigration office, don’t forget to use the online appointment system. (Note: This method is currently limited to UTC).

  1. Please download the Queue Management System (QMS) application.
  2. Open the app and click on “Service Providers.”
  3. Select “Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia.”
  4. Choose your “State.”
  5. Select the UTC center you wish to visit.
  6. Click “Get Ticket.”
  7. Click “Queue Ticket” to get your number (you can also see the current waiting number of people).

Here is a short video from the YouTube channel @ImigresenTV demonstrating how to use QMS to book online.

Keep in mind that procedures and requirements may change over time. Therefore, it’s essential to verify the latest information on the official website of the Immigration Department of Malaysia or consult the nearest Malaysian embassy or consulate for the most up to date details.
